The basement lab.

I bought a Sigma 105mm macro lens and decided to learn macro photography properly, in my basement, in public. This page tracks every shot and every episode, starting from zero.

100 shots.
Zero on the wall.

I'm learning macro from scratch, in public. Every frame worth keeping lands here, mistakes included. When the wall is full, I'll know what I'm doing. Probably.

Lab logs

Each shoot gets filmed: the setup, the settings, the failed frames and the one that worked. The first episode is in the edit now. The whole plan is public if you want to learn alongside me.

Where I started.

Before the macro lens there was a photography course, one assignment per lesson. These are my frames from it, from lines and patterns to white space. They are the baseline the 100-shot wall gets measured against.

Slot cars, up close.

I have been racing slot cars and Mini-Z on camera for years, with 424 videos on my Conquest channel. Now the cars are going under the macro lens and into a desktop wind tunnel with smoke, so you can see the air move over them.

From the track

Frames from my Conquest track, shot in January 2022 on a Sony ZV-E10 with a 12mm lens wide open at f/2. That is why so little is in focus, and it is the same problem I am now solving with macro and focus stacking. Scroll sideways.
